Paradise lost / SS21

With a direct nod to limitations continuing into 2021, Paradise Lost showcases Saint and Sofia’s SS21 offerings with a graceful, serine studio campaign. Shot on fake skies and sprawling desert landscapes, the campaign, oxymoronic in its intentions, juxtaposes shots of models airborne and weightless; a foreshadowing of unconfined days ahead.

As we look towards the future and the return of normality, we hope this collection will encourage you to feel excited about getting dressed up again - without sacrificing comfort. We’ve created a collection full of bold design details to offer you a sense of self-expression after an unpredictable year. Warm weather classics like puff sleeve cotton dresses, linen boiler suits, and lightweight cigarette trousers are elevated with metallic detailing, while shirt dresses and tank tops are upgraded with a golden burnout material. Enjoy.

Design Inspiration

After a year of uncertainty and anxiety, we wanted our SS21 to be brimming with optimism, energy and colour. As we look towards the future and the return of some semblance of normality, we hope this collection will encourage you to feel excited about getting dressed again - without sacrificing on comfort. We have created a collection filled with bold design details to offer you a sense of self-expression and certainty after an unpredictable 12 months.

Warm weather classics like puff sleeve cotton dresses, linen boiler suits and lightweight cigarette trousers are elevated with metallic detailing, while shirt dresses and tank tops are upgraded with a golden burnout material. Similarly, staple wardrobe basics are made current with gold and navy flecks running through our classic cotton whites.

Texture plays a starring role through the collection too, with Broderie Anglaise dresses sitting alongside fluid, shiny viscose staples and wide-leg jersey trousers.

MMAA Social

Our SS21 collection sees our first collaboration with Mmaa Social, a collective of more than 400 artisans that hand-weave beautiful basket bags on the border of Ghana and Burkina Faso.

Each basket is produced sustainably, using elephant grass and vegetable-based dyes made by the collective. Designs are incredibly intricate and entirely unique - it’s no wonder that Emma Watson featured the Rita basket in her ‘In The Bag’ interview for British Vogue.

Mmaa Social is a non-profit creating more than just a sustainable basket: each straw basket purchased supports weavers and their communities, providing a network where members have access to financial literacy training, education, and business support programs.

Find three of the collective’s beautiful basket bag styles in our Accessories section. We have chosen these designs for their vibrant colours that complement the palette of our SS21 collection.

Behind the scenes

Produced in-house and shot in East London, the campaign’s success relied upon resourcefulness and creativity. Playing on the dichotomy of expanse and limitations, we created several bespoke backdrops of blue skies and arid deserts for our models to pose in front of. Props to compliment each scene were sourced or created from scratch, including a notably challenging addition of 100kg of sand.

Special thanks to the Saint and Sofia creative team. Campaign shot by Michael Higham and Dominika Durianova. Hair and makeup by Jo Lorrimer. Styling and production by Amber Allinson-Epps. Collection modeled by Wing Leung and Rocky Brower.
